Rumson Rec Code of Conduct

The purpose of this Code is to ensure the welfare of all participants and to maximize enjoyment of the activity by promoting good sportsmanship. By participating in a Rumson Recreation sponsored activity, all Coaches/Trainers, parents, spectators and participants agree to abide by the Code of Conduct.

COACHES’ CODE:

  • I understand that players’ play for enjoyment and winning is only part of the game. I will never place the value of winning above the value of every participant having a positive experience;

  • I recognize the value and importance of officials and their role. I will treat officials with respect and courtesy at all times, accepting their calls even if I disagree;

  • I will be role model for good sportsmanship at all times. I will not use foul language, display anger, or criticize other coaches, opponents, officials or players;

  • I will not permit unsportsmanlike or disrespectful behavior from my players;

  • I will familiarize myself of the rules of the league and play by the rules.

  • I understand that positive reinforcement is more effective than negative criticism and will be cognizant of this when instructing my players;

  • I will be gracious in victory and defeat.

  • I understand that I am responsible for the welfare of my players at practices and games. I will arrive on time and will not leave until every player has been picked up. I will report any accidents and injuries to the Recreation Director in a timely fashion.

  • If I cannot attend a practice or game, I will have a Rumson Rec certified coach stand in for me;

  • I value our parks and facilities and will ensure that all trash and personal items are collected at the end of each practice and game. In addition, I will ensure my players use facilities and equipment respectfully and in the manner in which they were intended to be used.

  • I will not consume alcohol or drugs and/or smoke during practices and games; I will not attend, coach or participate in any youth event while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

PARENTS’/SPECTATORS’ CODE:

  • I understand that my role is to be supportive of my child and the other participants and to contribute toward a positive environment. I will never place the value of winning above the value of creating a positive and supportive atmosphere for all participants.

  • I recognize the value and importance of officials and their role. I will treat officials with respect and courtesy at all times, accepting their calls even if I disagree;

  • I will be role model for good sportsmanship at all times. I will not use foul language, display anger, or criticize coaches, opponents, officials or players;

  • I will be a gracious spectator in victory and defeat.

  • I value our volunteer coaches and appreciate their significant time and effort to make our Recreation programs a success. I understand that by registering for an activity, we have made a commitment to the volunteers and fellow team members and will do our best to have our child attend all practices and games, arriving prepared and on time and picked up on time. If my child cannot attend a practice or game, we will notify our coach in advance.

  • I will not consume alcohol or drugs and/or smoke during practices and games; I will not attend, coach or participate in any youth event while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

PLAYERS’ CODE:

  • I will be role model for good sportsmanship at all times. I will not use foul language, display anger, or criticize coaches, opponents, officials or players;

  • I will be respectful of coaches, officials and fellow players, cooperating and listening to instructions, helping create a positive and supportive environment.

  • I will arrive on time and prepared for practices and games.

  • I will be gracious player in victory and defeat.

  • I value our parks and facilities and will help collect all trash and personal items at the end of each practice and game. In addition, I will use facilities and equipment respectfully and in the manner in which they were intended to be used.

ENFORCEMENT OF CODE:

This Code will be enforced at the sole discretion of the Rumson Recreation Commission. By volunteering to coach, registering your child(ren) to participate, and/or attending Rumson Recreation events, you, your spouse, guests, and child(ren) agree to abide by this Code. Failure to uphold this Code may result in sanctions including a verbal warning, a written reprimand, immediate suspension from participation, and suspension from future recreation sponsored programs.
