Maricarmen Buckley Joins The Rumson 100 Mile Club

Maricarmen Buckley becomes the third Rumson resident to join Rumson’s 100 Mile Club. Buckley hit it relentlessly hard as she recorded her final runs of 13.26 ,13.51 and 10 miles to accomplish the 100 mile milestone.

Simply put, Maricarmen is an amazing person, to say the least. Besides being an incredible runner, she splits time professionally between being a Director at Canvass Studio Art, a Designer and a Painter. She is also a wife and mother to two college-added students.

She used the Rumson 100 Mile Club as motivation as she is training for the New York City Marathon (her 2nd). This one is extra special for her because she is fulfilling a promise to run it with her daughter. She is also running on behalf of Fred’s Team, a NYC based non profit focused on eliminating Cancer. The cause is particularly important to her as she lost a niece to Leukemia.

Maricarmen is a morning runner and loves Meadowridge, having inked all her miles there. Her friends often kid her for doing loop after loop in training, but she is unfazed and her consistency should be applauded.

“I don’t get tired or running the lops there. I just love that park”.

She finds inspiration from other local runners, most notably fellow 100 mile club member, Kerry Chandler and local legend Charlie Volker. Maricarmen is certainly a bundle of good energy. She was raised in Mexico City and has proudly called Rumson home for the past 10 years. For her, running keeps her mentally strong, focused and it makes her happy. She looks forward to starting every weekday with a morning run and she aims to get about 50 miles/week with at least one run of 13 or more miles.

As for advice to others,

“Just run. Don’t worry about the numbers. Plus, its important to set small goals for yourself”.

Maricarmen should be congratulated for all she has accomplished inside and away from the park. We wish her the very best in November as she shreds the five Boroughs of New York City for an amazing cause.

Although the Rumson 100 Mile Club is very prestigious, it is certainly not exclusive. The Rumson 100 Mile Club welcomes all members, you just have to earn your way in. All you need to do is enjoy our parks, track your miles (via an app or on paper) and show us at the Rec Dept. More information is available at https://www.rumsonrecreation.org/100mileclub & you can join our group on Strava @RumsonRec.
