Cold temperatures certainly did not diminish the enthusiasm and support for our Veterans at the annual Veterans Day observance on November 11th.

Victory Park played host to the event, as Mayor Hemphill led the festivities to honor and praise our Military heroes.

The Rumson Scouts eloquently presented the colors (and guarded the flags on the windy November morning).  The Rumson Scouts were also joined by the RFHHS Veterans Appreciation Club and the Forestdale SGA, to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Pastor Whitney Bayer, of First Presbyterian Church, led a heartfelt invocation and benediction. Several community organizations, including the PBA and the First Aid Squad presented wreaths as well.

The duet of Catherine and Olivia Bruno astounded the crowd with their rendition of the National Anthem.

US Marine Veteran, Rumson resident, and all-around amazing person, Garner Smythe entertained and captivated the crowd with his remarks about service and loyalty.  He noted that the USMC celebrated their 250 anniversary the day before.

Council Members Sarah Pomphrey and Linda Smith read the Names of Active Military Personnel.

Elliott Rhee capped the ceremony in superb fashion, with her wonderful performance of God Bless America.

The Rumson Scouts closed things out with the Retiring of the Colors.

Overall, it was wonderful to see the Rumson community celebrate our Veterans.  It was uplifting to know that some frigid temperatures could not deter our supporters.  Perhaps the most enjoyable part of the event was speaking to our veterans and hearing their stories of service, places they were deployed and the pride in which they feel about their service.

We thank everyone involved in making the day a special one. And we appreciate all that our Veterans have done for us.
