The Rumson Tin Caps and The Rumson Red Wings began their Spring Training on Friday, March 24th. Led by former Villanova legend and future Hall of Fame Coach Mike “The Skipper” Grillo, the upstart group began what promises to be a great season.
This group of ballplayers did not let some cold March temperatures deter them from their pursuits of excellence. The hallowed grounds of RFHHS’s Turf Field played host to some remarkable skills. The athletes showed little rust and already seemed to be in mid season form.
While the rivalry is always prevalent on the diamond, this group practice was all about fun and playing ball. Impressive performances were displayed by all the young athletes. JP Grillo, Jackson Walker, Ashton Kutsak and James Scholl showed brilliance on the defensive side of the ball. Liam McKeehan, Michael Blackstock and Reid Geffon proved to be standouts in the drills. We also saw great baseball performances turned in by Ashton Kutsak, Daniel DeMAso, Logan McCue, Hudson Cicalese and William Salata.
Based on the first session, expectations are high for this dynamic age group. The scouts seemed to be impressed and the fans are certainly eagerly looking forward to opening day.
Again we thank Superstar Sports Journalist Lucy “The Sharpshooter” Scholl for capturing the action!
