Rumson, NJ - Unphased by some difficult weather conditions, the Rumson Dodgers chalked up a tie, their first of the season, inside the friendly confines of Riverside Park this week. Led by stellar defense all around, the boys in blue held off an offensive juggernaut in the Little Silver Blue Jays in Two River Little League (TRLL) action.
Under the guidance of legendary managers Kevin Lane, Chuck Jones and Nick Sophinos, the Dodgers responded with two scoreless innings behind the trusty right arm of “Super” Cooper Jones. Starting pitcher Aidan Lane also provided two solid innings to keep the Blue Jay offense in check, and Jason Tucker worked two innings under threat of the most perilous weather of all.
Lane and Jones combined for the lone Dodger run when Lane’s clutch triple scored Jones from second. Another key play in the game was in the 4th inning when James Read made an amazing catch in the infield, keeping the Blue Jays from gaining any traction.
Things are beginning to heat up inside the TRLL Majors division as the season moves into May. Next up, the Dodgers take the road for a Saturday match-up vs their cross town rivals, the Fair Haven Marlins. First pitch will be at 11:00 AM at Fair Haven Fields.
Notes: Saturday's matchup will be the first official game for the Marlins and the team will certainly be eager to play after a long off–season.
