Travel Programs

Rumson Travel teams are teams authorized by Rumson Recreation, which require selection via a competitive tryout. Teams include soccer, baseball, and basketball. Playing time in games/tournaments will be influenced by attendance at practice and games, effort, ability, and attitude, and will not necessarily be equal for all players.

Rumson Travel Coach Application - To be considered for coaching a Rumson Travel sport (soccer, basketball, baseball) an application must be completed and on file with the Recreation Director.  

 

 

 

Rumson Travel Baseball clubs compete in the USABL.  Rumson Softball clubs compete in All Shore. Rumson Travel Baseball/Softball teams are teams authorized by Rumson Recreation, which require selection via a competitive tryout. USABL baseball age guidelines:

12U - 05/01/2009 - 12/31/2010 with max age 12 and min 11, must be in 6th or 7th grade

11U - 05/01/2010 - 12/31/2011 with max age 11 and min 10, must be in 5th or 6th grade

10U - 05/01/2011 - 12/31/2012 with max age 10 and min 9, must be in 4th or 5th grade

9U - 05/01/2012 - 12/31/2013 with max age 9 and min 8, must be in 3rd or 4th grade

8U - 05/01/2013 - 12/31/2014 with max age 8 and min 7, must be in 2nd or 3rd grade

Monday, June 14th (rain date June 16)
11U: 4:00-6:00 PM, River Side Park South Field 
9U: 6:00-8:00 PM, River Side Park North Field 

Tuesday, June 15th (rain date June 18)
10U: 6:00-8:00 PM, River Side Park North Field 

We expect to pilot combined Rumson-Fair Haven (RFH DiamondDawgs) 12U teams which will have tryouts at a later date this summer. Exact dates still TBD. A separate communication with full logistics will be sent once tryout dates are finalized. 

Information about the 8U clinic will be released around Labor Day Weekend.

Within USABL rules, Rumson travel baseball allows players who qualify by age to play with either 1) their school grade or, should they qualify by the May 1 cutoff date, 2) the grade below them. Unless otherwise grandfathered by a previous issue of necessity, players are not allow to play up a grade.

Travel Team Tryout Procedures

  • All travel teams are required to have an announced open tryout each year.

  • A mid-season tryout may be conducted only if a spot is open. This tryout must be an announced open tryout.

  • All tryouts must have a third party evaluator and this must be on record with Rumson Recreation.

  • A new resident, who moves into town after the tryout or a child who was sick and unable to attend the tryout, may report to the first practice, at which time the coach will determine if that child will be accepted onto the team for that season.

 
Rumson Baseball Fall Season Tryouts

Mid-Monmouth Travel Basketball - Rumson participates in the Mid-Monmouth Travel Basketball League. The league supports teams for both boys and girls and players are required to live in the town for which they play.

Each year tryouts are held in late May/early June for most age divisions that will participate in the upcoming season. 

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the fall and winter season details will be shared in closer to the start of each season.
